Art for All: Wire Faces

Explore working with wire and how we can create portraits using this medium at this fun and accessible workshop. Programmed to accompany our portraiture exhibition in collaboration with the National Portrait Gallery, we will explore different techniques, proportions of the human head and how to express the characteristics which make us who we are to create a sculpture of a face that is familiar to you; whether it’s a famous one or a friend’s!
This family session will last approximately 90 minutes and is suitable for children aged 7yrs+, young people and adults to enjoy together. You do not need a ticket as an accompanying adult but if you would like to participate alongside your family please do purchase a ticket for yourself. You will be most welcome to join in!

Exploring Drawing: Portraits with Jo Bressloff

Join Jo Bressloff with your family at this unique workshop. Based in the gallery in amongst the portraits, you will have the chance to work from a live portrait model using easels, boards and a range of materials. Most suitable for families with children aged 7yrs+, Jo will guide you through the process of portrait drawing in a fun and accessible way with lots of activities and short poses. Sessions are as follows:
10.30am – 12pm
1pm – 2.30pm
3pm – 4.30pm
This session is designed for adults and children to enjoy together and children will need to be accompanied by a participating adult.
Free to all, these workshops are supported as part of the Creative Connections project and accompany the Creative Connections portraiture exhibition in collaboration with the National Portrait Gallery. Due to high demand for these sessions, however, we ask that you pay a £5 fully refundable deposit per ticket. This deposit will be refunded in full upon attendance. If you can’t attend and can give us five working days notice we will also be able to refund your deposit. Please email art.gallery@southampton.gov.uk with any queries.

Create your own familiar and explore mythical creatures great and small in the spellbinding day.

Thurs 17th Aug: Ready for Hogwarts
Every witch and wizard needs a wand, spell books and potion ingredients! Come along and craft these magical essentials.

Fri 18th Aug: Ministry of Makers
Move over Ministry of Magic, the Ministry of Makers are in town! Explore the magical world through 2D and 3D crafts- muggles welcome!

Tickets are £28 per day or £70 for all three days.

A day of investigation, imagination and discovery for children aged 6 1/2 to 12yrs who love being creative and learning through fun activities. Led by the experienced cultural services learning team, at Kids’ Club children will explore the past, experience the museum and gallery and make really cool things!

 

Monday 21 Aug – Mini Cruise!
Step aboard for a day full of crafts and activities inspired by Southampton’s famous cruise ships and the countries visit.

Tuesday 22 Aug – Steampunk Adventure!
Come with us on a journey through time and space as you create crafts fit for a steampunk adventure!

 

These workshops will run from 9am through to 4.00pm and are based at SeaCity and the City Art Gallery. We may move between venues. Please drop off from 8.45am and pick up from the SeaCity main entrance and provide snacks, lunch and a drink. A registration form must be completed prior to arrival.

Tuesday 1 August – Hands on History. Explore objects from our historical collections and recreate some of your own to take home using traditional skills.
