As part of the commitment to move to a Carbon Neutral City by 2030, Southampton City Council has launched the Green City Charter with a vision to create a cleaner, green, healthier and more sustainable City.
Here at SeaCity Museum we have pledged our support and we’re changing the way we do things to become a more sustainable and greener museum. We were proud to be part of the Arts Council England Accelerator programme to share and learn practice and insights with the wider cultural sector.
Here are some of the changes we have made to reduce our environmental impact and champion green practices.
We have moved to biodegradable takeaway cups, paper straws
We source our items locally where possible
We are supplied by 100% green electricity
We are supplied by geothermal for heating and cooling with zero carbon output
We use recycled materials where possible for learning activities
We have stopped the automatic printing of receipts in our shop and café
We now offer digital download of maps instead of handing them out automatically
We are single use plastic free wherever possible, and always looking for new ways to improve on this.
