Southampton Culture Club for Kids Summer Week 2

A day of investigation, imagination and discovery for children aged 6 1/2 to 12yrs who love being creative and learning through fun activities. Led by the experienced cultural services learning team, at Kids’ Club children will explore the past, experience the museum and gallery and make really cool things!

Monday 31 July – Animal Safari. What’s your favourite creature from the savannah? Spend the day getting creative and investigating some of Africa’s most iconic animals.

Tuesday 1 August – Hands on History. Explore objects from our historical collections and recreate some of your own to take home using traditional skills.

These workshops will run from 9am through to 4.00pm and are based at SeaCity and the City Art Gallery. We may move between venues. Please drop off from 8.45am and pick up from the SeaCity main entrance and provide snacks, lunch and a drink. A registration form must be completed prior to arrival.

The price for a ticket for both days is £60 or for individual days the cost is £35.

Tuesday 25 July – Past Portraits. Step back in time and imagine yourself as a person from the past. Then explore art techniques to create pictures of past you.

If you love clay, paint and mess then this is the workshop for you. Get hands on learning how to make a mould, mix plaster and create a plaster cast. Please note we will be using protective gloves, googles and dust masks.

This workshop will run from 9am through to 4.00pm and is based at SeaCity and the City Art Gallery. We may move between venues. Please drop off from 8.45am and pick up from the SeaCity main entrance and provide snacks, lunch and a drink. A registration form must be completed prior to arrival.

Springtime Lanterns

Spring in the air! Use collage to decorate a lantern with bunnies, chicks, daffodils or your own ideas to celebrate the new season.

This workshop is designed for adults and children to enjoy together with a minimum age of five in mind. Children must be accompanied and adults can choose between a FREE chaperone ticket or purchase a full price ticket and join in themselves.

Tickets are £6 per participant and we will run these sessions at the following times:

  • 10:10am – 11:10am
  • 12:30pm – 1:30pm

Art for All: Moongazing Clay Hares

Learn new techniques, have fun and get creative, led step by step by one of our talented education team to create your own clay moongazing hare.

This workshop will last an hour and a half and is designed for adults and children to enjoy together with a minimum age of 6 years old in mind. Children must be accompanied, and adults have the choice between a FREE chaperone ticket or pay for a full priced ticket and join in themselves!

Tickets are £7.50 per participant and we will run these sessions at the following times:

  • 10:00am – 11:30am
  • 12:30pm – 2:30pm
  • 2:30pm – 4:00pm

Please note we will be using terracotta clay. We will not be firing it, but it will harden naturally over the course of a day or two.

Join artist Harriet Bilton at our monthly art club to experiment with different art materials, processes and ideas; inspired by the Art Gallery’s collection and the exhibitions on show.

You are welcome to drop your child off for the session or to stay and enjoy it with them. Tickets are £12 per child.

We will run Young Ones twice on 15th July, at the following times:

  • 10:30am – 12:30pm
  • 1:30pm – 3:30pm
