Kirsty Stonell Walker is a curator, art historian and author, specialising in Victorian art and social history. Her non fiction works include The Pre-Raphaelite Girl Gang (2018) and Light and Love (2020). She has also published two novels A Curl of Copper and Pearl (2014) and We Are Villains All (2015)
This tour will last approximately 45 minutes with the chance to ask questions afterwards. Please be aware that this is not a seated event, although portable chairs will be available on request.

Join archaeologist Matt Garner for a brand new guided walk unpicking the origins of the medieval town of Southampton, Hamtun. Charting the story of Southampton from Viking attacks in the 9th century through to the arrival of the Normans, this special tour will explore one of the most fascinating periods of Southampton’s rich history.
The tour will last approximately 90 minutes and tickets are £8 per person.

Thinking Thursdays is a weekday initiative from Southampton City Council Cultural Services, exploring the rich history and heritage of the town. Each session is unique, but it could be a talk, tour or something entirely different!
St Michael’s Church is the oldest surviving building in Southampton and has been central to many of the incredible events in the city’s past. In this special guided tour, join volunteer steward, historian and town guide Geoff Watts in exploring the ins and outs of this incredible sacred space. From the Norman Conquest, to the terrifying French Raid of 1338 and the Second World War, this truly is one of the most important buildings in Southampton.
There will be outside elements of the tour and uneven floors, so please wear suitable footwear. The tour will begin in St Michael’s Square (outside Tudor House and near St Michael’s Church) and last 90 minutes.

Join Roman expert and archaeologist Dr Andy Russel for a ramble around Roman Southampton, located in modern-day Bitterne Manor, Although the Roman remains in Southampton have long-since disappeared, this tour will allow you to discover incredible stories of the town 2,000 years ago by visiting the sites of archaeological interest. Please meet at the Bitterne Road West entrance of Bitterne Manor Park. Unfortunately this tour is not accessible for wheelchair users or people with mobility issues.

Explore some of Southampton’s beautiful parks with tour guide, local historian and author Martin Brisland from the award-winning See Southampton. Martin will lead you through the history of these remarkable open spaces and transport you to centuries gone by with stories of heroism, plague and war!
The tour will begin by the fountain outside the Central Library and City Art Gallery, will last about 90 minutes and will end at Hoglands Park. Tickets are £8 per person.
The tour will be carried out in a covid-secure manner. Please wear sensible footwear and bring a face covering. This tour will be keeping to the main paths to make it as accessible as possible.

Sometimes described as ‘Southampton’s most important historic building’, Tudor House has a rich history ready for the telling.
Led by Lady Lyster, wife of Sir Richard Lyster, guests will enjoy a tour of Tudor House hearing about everyday life in Tudor Southampton as well as the period secrets Tudor House holds.
