Guidelines for Education Groups

extra information

Below you’ll find loads of useful information that will help you plan your trip to SeaCity. If you have any questions feel free to give us a ring on 023 8083 2810 or email us at museums.education@southampton.gov.uk.

Parking

Your coaches and mini-buses are welcome to drop off students and groups outside the museum in our designated dropping-off point. We have capacity for 3 coaches at any one time.

Up-to-date details about coach parking and travel can be found here.

If you’re coming by car, you’ll find lots of car parks within easy walking distance, the closest three being West Park Multi Storey, Civic Centre Forecourt and Marlands Multi Storey. Find more information on local parking.

Recommended Adult:child ratios

We have recommended ratios depending on the age of the students:

  • Key Stage 1 and 2 – 1:6
  • Key Stage 3-5 – 1:10

It is important that group leaders remain with their groups at all times, as the behaviour and discipline of pupils remain the responsibility of group leaders for the duration of your visit.

We recommend that groups visiting on a self-guided basis do so in smaller groups (maximum of 10 pupils) led by an adult. Accompanying adults and staff do not have to pay admission to the museum however the museum reserves the right to charge admission for any adults over our recommended adult to child ratios.

Workshops and Discovery session INFORMATION

All our workshops and tours are led by our expert museum educators. We promote creative thinking, discussion and group work, catering for all types and ages of learners. We enable participants to handle authentic museum objects, dress up and engage with thought-provoking, enjoyable tasks. Please click the links below to find out more details about what our Titanic guided Discovery Sessions and workshops entail. These might be particularly handy if you’re planning your self-guided time.
